Vice President Tajani gets assurance from Italian government to stop road blockades Published on: 24/01/2012
Following media reports on road blockades in some parts of Italy, the Italian Minister for Internal Affairs, Anna Maria Cancellieri, assured European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani that the Italian government would undertake all necessary measures to bring the blockades to an end.
In a phone conversation with Mrs Cancellieri, Antonio Tajani had expressed his concerns that the blockades might disrupt the free movement of goods in the EU, as many trucks from Member States would use Italian roads. Antonio Tajani thanked Mrs Cancellieri for her assurances to stop soon the road blockades.
When such obstacles occur, Member State should take all necessary and proportionate measures so that the free movement of goods is assured in the territory of the Member State.
