Corporate Social Responsibility: a new definition, a new agenda for action

News in RSS

The European Commission has published a new policy on corporate social responsibility. By taking steps to better meet their social responsibility, enterprises can help themselves and help society as a whole.

The European Commission’s new strategy on corporate social responsibility (CSR) aims to create conditions favourable to sustainable growth and employment generation in the medium and long term..

The European Commission has put forward a new, simpler definition of corporate social responsibility as “the responsibility of enterprises for their impacts on society”.

The Commission then goes on to define, in generic terms, what an enterprise should do to meet that responsibility.

The new policy also puts forward an agenda for action covering 8 areas, such as enhancing the market reward for CSR, and better aligning European and global approaches to CSR.
