Three winning projects of the Design Eleven competition from Belgium, Italy and Estonia will be awarded at the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) premises in Brussels (99 rue Belliard), on 21 September.

By focusing "Intergenerational solidarity in times of an ageing population", design students and designers in all EU Member States were called to create innovative and pertinent solutions in terms of “ageless design”, through a participative process. On the same occasion, an exhibition will be launched, displaying the 20 most significant prototypes of innovative and sustainable design project and packaging on this theme.

This design competition was initiated by EESC in 2009. European Commission Enterprise and Industry contributed to the promotion of this second edition, together with CUMULUS (International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media) and EIDD (Design for All Europe).

The first prize of EUR 7 000 will be awarded to "KEEP Cool", an alternative fridge made of ecological and recyclable material, by Vincent Gerkens from Belgium. The project "ORTOgether", by Francesco di Luzio, Giulia Bartolucci and Sonia Fornea, from Italy, will be awarded the second prize of EUR 4 000. This project provides all the necessary tools to create your own family vegetable garden in a funny and eco-friendly way. The third prize of EUR 2 000 will be awarded to "Darning Pear", a project by Mari Korgesaar and Liina Tiidor from Estonia, which consists in a wooden tool used for mending clothes and thus promoting economical lifestyle.
