A dynamic European standardisation system is essential in order to drive quality and innovation and to strengthen Europe’s role as a global economic player. E&I magazine’s main feature examines a package of proposals put forward by the European Commission in order to make European standards more responsive to changing circumstances and better able to support Europe’s global competitiveness.
Issue 11 also looks at tools specifically aimed at giving Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) greater access to loans and equity finance: these financial instruments, funded under the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme, have already a strong track record of success.
The promotion of a Euro-Med area of shared prosperity - with a special focus on entrepreneurship and small business – is also featured. This new partnership seeks to promote inclusive economic development in the southern Mediterranean.
Other articles highlight the new space policy the European Commission is developing to ensure continued success to this strategically important sector, and the role security-related research plays in protecting European citizens. Furthermore, this issue contains features on projects in the field of resource efficiency, the launch of the Social Innovation Europe Initiative and the practical support the Enterprise Europe Network gives to women entrepreneurs.
