Through public procurement, European governments and public authorities can play an important role in promoting the uptake of innovative solutions and developing new markets, while simultaneously improving the quality of public services. <br/>
The European Commission has launched several initiatives with a view to maximising the innovative potential of public procurement across the EU. A recent call for proposals under the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme focuses on areas related to major societal challenges.
