EU and national officials to review with stakeholders the societal dimension to Europe’s current and future security research goals.
The Security Research programme of DG Enterprise and Industry is now preparing for its next workshop – “Security research and Europe’s societal challenges: what do citizens want?” – to review the ethical and social aspects of civil security research. This one-day event will take place on 8 June in Oslo in collaboration with the Research Council of Norway. A dinner will be preceding the event on the evening of 7 June.
The workshop will bring together a wide range of security research stakeholders from civil society, academia, industry and public authorities and other sectors to analyse how to best integrate the societal aspects of security research across Europe, both nationally and at EU level. It follows a first workshop on the subject hosted by DG Enterprise and Industry in June 2010.
Debate in Oslo will be split into three topics:
- Europe’s achievements in societal security research
- citizen expectations and how European Security Research should meet them
- integrating societal aspects into EU security research in practical terms
Tangible results from the discussion will be used to help prepare the final annual work programme of the Security Research theme within the EU’s wider 2007-2013 FP7 research budget – and to shape the Security Research theme of FP8.
Please find below further background material concerning this event, including the draft programme. More documentation will soon be available.
Participation to the workshop is free, but registration is needed. The registration is open until 3 June 2011 and can be done at the following link .
