On 25th November, the Council of the European Union and the Council of the European Space Agency at Ministerial adopted the Resolution "Global challenges: taking full benefit of European space systems"
Underlines that Galileo and GMES are the flagship programmes and priorities of the European Union in Space.
Following the new ‘space’ competence introduced by the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU, the Competitiveness Council met in its new Space formation for the first time on 25th November 2010. It adopted the Resolution "Global challenges: taking full benefit of European space systems" reflecting the orientations endorsed jointly by the European Union and the European Space Agency (ESA) at the Seventh Space Council meeting.
The main headings touched upon are strategy and investment, the successful deployment and sustainable exploitation of the flagship programmes, Galileo and GMES, the contribution of European Space systems on climate change, Space for security, security for space, the European vision on space-exploration, the partnership on space with Africa and the governance of space activities in Europe.
