The European Tourism Forum will this year be hosted by Malta, in collaboration with the European Commission and the Belgian Presidency. It will be held on November 18th - 19th in Mellieha, a European Destinations of Excellence (EDEN) winning destination.
The main theme will be "Strengthening Europe`s Role as the Leading Tourism Destination".
On the 18th November, two panels will take place:
- Panel 1 will deal with prioritising actions following the Commission Communication on Tourism
- Panel 2 will discuss ways and means to maximise visibility for Europe.
A Plenary Session focusing on the new policy framework for tourism will on the other hand take place on the 19th November, with the confirmed participation of Vice President Tajani.
Following the Forum closure, a Ministerial Debate will take place on the 19th November. This will take the form of a restricted meeting for EU Ministers and State Secretaries, chaired by Vice President Tajani, to exchange ideas and discuss the implementation of the Tourism Communication adopted in June 2010.
It is expected that a political discussion takes place in this meeting whereby Ministers put forward their suggestions on which actions included in the recent Communication should be prioritised. A discussion paper is currently being prepared by the European Commission to stimulate debate on this issue accordingly.
