Galileo research and development activities under the sixth framework programme for research and technological development (FP6). The projects revealed an impressive number of innovative ideas for new satellite navigation applications. They paved the way for GNSS (global navigation satellite system) introduction in the aviation, maritime and road sectors, clearly demonstarting the added value that GNSS applications could provide to these sectors by increasing hte safety, efficiency and reliability of the activities performed.
