The Commission organises a workshop on eAccessibility for user organisations and industry focusing on Terminals for Communication of Deaf and hard of hearing persons. Equal access for all to telecommunication services becomes of major importance in today’s and tomorrow’s information society. To access electronic communication services, people with disabilities will need specific features to be implemented in either mainstream telecommunication equipment or in specific assistive devices.
The Commission is organising a Workshop on the 27th June 2005 from 10 AM to 4 PM in rue de la Loi 102 in the Auditorium. This Workshop aims at bringing together organisations of the users groups and industry to identify concrete actions and determine a concrete roadmap for implementation of solutions for accessible equipment. The Workshop will focus on the identification of user requirements, of available functions and services in current equipment, on the ways to fill the gap (modification of mainstream equipment, add-ons, specific devices), and identification of issues to be treated in priority (text communication and sign language over videophony for deaf and hard of hearing persons, interfaces to specific devices like Braille keyboards for deaf blind persons, avoidance of interference to hearing aids).
