Plenary meeting of the Euro-Mediterranean Dialogue on the future of the textile and clothing sector
- Add to your calendar
Since 2004, the Commission services have been conducting a dialogue with Mediterranean partner countries (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey) on the future of the textile and clothing sector. The mandate of this dialogue is to identify ways of developing common industrial strategies in close co-operation with relevant stakeholders; to search for common solutions for better competitiveness of the sector in the Euro-Med region; to provide a platform for an exchange of experience and information on ongoing initiatives and available instruments across the Euro-Mediterranean region; and to encourage (sub-)regional co-operation and efforts for developing regional initiatives.
After four years, the Commission services considered it important to convene a plenary meeting, for the public authorities of EU Member States and Mediterranean partner countries, in order to take stock of the recent developments in the textiles and clothing sector in the Euro-Med region and discuss possible future directions and concrete actions that could be initiated through that dialogue. The plenary meeting provided also an opportunity to learn about ongoing EU initiatives which the Mediterranean textile and clothing industry could benefit from. Total of 40 participants attended the meeting.
