The Communication from the Commission “Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES): we care for a safer planet” addresses the need to develop GMES services as the basis for Europe's autonomy in information provision world-wide. The objective of GMES is to provide, on a sustained and operational basis, reliable and timely services related to environmental and security issues in support of public policy needs.
