Commission consults on bringing down mobile phone tariffs in Europe

The Commission has observed major differences in the regulation of European wholesale call termination rates both within and across Member States. Termination rates are charged between operators for the transfer of a call to their network. The differences in the regulation of termination markets and resulting divergences in termination rates across the EU as well as the large gap between fixed and mobile termination rates seriously hamper the realisation of a single Telecoms market. Against this background, the Commission is currently preparing a Recommendation on voice call termination rates in the EU and seeks the views and contributions of all interested parties on all aspects of the draft documents.
