Director-General of Enterprise and Industry DG Daniel Calleja's Mission for Growth in São Paulo, Brazil, 23-24 April 2012

Following Vice-President Antonio Tajani's Mission for Growth to Brazil on 15-16 December 2011, Director-General of Enterprise and Industry DG Daniel Calleja lead a Mission for Growth in São Paulo on 23 and 24 April 2012 with the support of the Federação das Indústrias do Estado de São Paulo. Daniel Calleja renewed the strong political relations between the EU and Brazil and had high level discussions with Brazilian politicians and Brazilian entrepreneurs on how to foster our industrial cooperation and how to implement the political agreements signed by Vice-President Tajani. Mr Calleja and Mr Humberto Luiz Ribeiro, State Secretary of Commerce and Services at the Ministry of Industry, Development and Foreign Trade, signed a Joint Declaration providing concrete actions to strengthen mutual cooperation in particular in the areas of reduction of administrative burden and internationalization, implementing the Memorandum of Understanding signed by VP Tajani.

Uruguay

Director-General of Enterprise and Industry DG, Mr Daniel Calleja's Mission for Growth in Montevideo, Uruguay, 25 April 2012

Following Vice-President Antonio Tajani's visit to Montevideo on 20 December 2011, Director-General of Enterprise and Industry DG Daniel Calleja lead a Mission for Growth in Montevideo on 25 April 2012. Daniel Calleja strengthened ties between Uruguayan and EU companies and had high-level discussions with Government representatives to implement the political agreements signed by Vice-President Tajani. Mr Calleja and Mr Roberto Kreimerman, Minister of Industry, Energy and Mining, issued a common Declaration providing concrete actions to strengthen mutual cooperation in particular in the areas of SMEs, industrial cooperation and raw materials, implementing the Memoranda of Understanding signed by VP Tajani.

Chile

Director-General of Enterprise and Industry DG, Mr Daniel Calleja's Mission for Growth in Santiago de Chile, 26-27 April 2012

Following Vice-President Antonio Tajani's visit to Santiago de Chile on 9 June 2011, Director-General of Enterprise and Industry DG Daniel Calleja lead a Mission for Growth in Santiago de Chile on 26-27 April 2012. Daniel Calleja followed up the implementation of the political agreements signed by Vice-President Tajani in the fields of SMEs policy, industrial cooperation, raw materials, tourism and space applications. Mr Calleja had very productive meetings and constructive exchanges of views among others with Mr Herman de Solminihac, Minister of Mining, and with Mrs Jacqueline Plass, Vice-Minister for Tourism. Mr Calleja and Mr. Flores, Undersecretary of Economy, signed a Joint Declaration providing concrete actions to strengthen mutual cooperation, implementing the Memorandum of Understanding signed by VP Tajani.

Mexico

Director-General of Enterprise and Industry DG, Mr. Daniel Calleja's Mission for Growth in Mexico, 15-16 April 2013

Following Vice President Antonio Tajani's successful Mission for Growth to Mexico in May 2012, Mr. Daniel Calleja, the European Commission's General Director of Enterprise and Industry, visited Mexico on 15-16 April 2013, accompanied by a large delegation of entrepreneurs. Mr. Calleja’s Mission for Growth was a real success in terms of number of participants and countries represented. The European companies present in the delegation employed more than 225.000 persons and represented around € 37 billion in turnover, greater than the GDP of Slovenia. The participating business associations represented more than 2 million European companies. The Mission was also a success due to the high level format of the meetings, both at ministerial and business levels.

The Mission pursued two main objectives: (1) to promote European business interests and strengthen ties between Mexico and EU companies, in particular SMEs; (2) to have high level discussions with Government representatives to implement the political agreements signed by Vice-President Tajani.

With this objective, Mr. Calleja participated in an event organised by PROMEXICO which focused on the business opportunities and investment climate in Mexico. His presentation centred on the cooperation aspects of the bilateral relation between the EU and Mexico. At this occasion, Mr. Jean-Noël Durvy, Director General of the Foundation Sophia Antipolis (France) and partner of the European Cluster Collaboration Platform (the ECCP is an initiative funded under CIP) co-signed with Mr. Juan Pablo Quintana Calles, ProMéxico's Executive Director of Internal Cooperation projects, a Memorandum of Understanding to reinforce cluster cooperation in the framework of the Letter of Intent on Industrial cooperation signed in May 2012 by Vice President Tajani.

Memorandum of Understanding on Clusters

Senator Rabindranath Salazar Solorio, President of the Commission for External Relations with Europe, hosted a lunch meeting with the Senators of the Commission at the Mexican Senate. Participants included the President of the Mexican Senate, Mr. Ernesto Javier Cordero Arroyo, the Vice-President and four other Senators. Senator Rabindranath Salazar Solorio underlined the importance of the cooperation with the EU.

Mr. Calleja also met with the Vice-Secretary for Innovation and Quality from the Ministry of Tourism, Mr. Francisco Maass Péna, representing the Secretary for Tourism Claudia Ruiz Massieu, and with Mr. Hilario Pérez Leon, Director General de Desarrollo Institucional y Coordinacion sectorial.

Mr. Calleja had a very productive working meeting with the Undersecretary of Industry and Trade of the Ministry of Economy, Mr. Jesús Ignacio Navarro, in the presence of the Director General of External Trade, Mr. Juan Diaz Mazadiego; the Director for International Relations of the National Institute for Entrepreneurs, Mr. Iván Ornelas Díaz; the Director General for Europe and Africa of the Undersecretary of International Trade, Mr. José Manuel Antonio Luna Calderón; the Director General of Mining Development, Mr. Juan José Camacho Lopez; the Deputy Director General de los Servicios de Apoyo, IMPI (Institute for Industrial Property), Mr. Ignacio Vera Estrada; and the Director of International Relations, IMPI, Mr. Rodrigo Turrent Nuñez.

During the meeting, they exchanged points of view on Mexican and European operator networks and on possible forms of cooperation in industrial sectors of common interest in order to foster their development and to reduce disparities between them.

The Consejo Empresarial Mexicano de Comercio Exterior, Inversión y Tecnología (COMCE), the Inter-American Development Bank (BID) received the whole delegation. Mr. Calleja had also a productive meeting with several Mexican representatives dealing with telecommunication and space issues.

Colombia

Following Vice President Antonio Tajani's successful Mission for Growth to Mexico in May 2012, Mr. Daniel Calleja, the European Commission's General Director of Enterprise and Industry, visited Bogota on 17-19 April 2013, accompanied by an important delegation of entrepreneurs. The Mission pursued two main objectives: (1) to promote European business interests and strengthen ties between Colombia and EU companies, in particular SMEs; (2) to have high level discussions with Government representatives to implement the political agreements signed by Vice-President Tajani.

With this objective, Mr. Calleja participated in the Vth Foro Nacional de Importadores organised by ANALDEX, event where more than 300 Colombian companies were present. This event attracted particular visibility at a time where the FTA between Colombia and the EU should enter into force soon. Mr. Calleja highlighted the size and potential of the European economy and of the companies participating, the need to promote greater internationalisation and deeper business relations as a source of growth and jobs for both economies. He underlined the importance of developing an integrated strategy on industrial policy, where the EU and Colombia could be like-minded partners. He emphasized that EU and Colombia have a rich bilateral agenda that will be boosted by the trade agreement which will open up markets on both sides and increase the stability of the trade relationship.

Mr. Calleja met with key Colombia politicians such as the Vice-Minister for Business and Development, Mr. Carlos de Hart, with whom he discussed the implementation of the various dialogues as defined in the letters of intent signed by Vice President Tajani during his May 2012 Mission for Growth. The Vice-Minister confirmed that there is a strong interest in developing these 4 political agreements signed with Vice President Tajani (SMEs, industrial cooperation, raw materials and tourism).

Mr. Calleja co-signed with Mr. Carlos de Hart a joint statement providing concrete actions to strengthen mutual cooperation in the areas of smes/clusters/industrial cooperation implementing the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Vice President Tajani.

Mr. Calleja also met with the Vice-Minister for Trade, Mr. Gabriel Duque; with the Vice-President of the Asociacion Nacional de Empresarios (ANDI), Mr. Juan Camilo Nariño; with the President of Confecámaras, Mr. Julián Dominguez; and with the “Superintendent de Sociedades”, Mrs. Maria Isabel Cañon.

The whole delegation also met with Proexport and with the Inter-American Development Bank (BID).
