EU supports new Business Education Centre
The South East European University (SEEU) was established in Tetovo in October 2001, and soon became a strong promoter of interethnic relations and understanding, by offering a tolerant, multi-lingual, multi-cultural approach to teaching and scientific research. Today the University has a student population of 8,000 in 12 undergraduate and 13 post-graduate programmes.
To help the university cope with its fast growth, the EU, through the European Agency for Reconstruction, provided €2.37 million to extend the university campus and provide additional teaching and office space, and administration services. The SEEU was able to contribute €0.47million to the costs of the construction.
The architectural and structural design of the extension to the SEEU was prepared in accordance with the needs assessed for accommodating the University administration, the management and the teaching staff.
Two new blocks, A and B with an additional 4200 m² in space, were constructed. Block A has three levels, totalling about 2700 m², and includes classrooms, offices for professors, the dean, and administration, including a small library and a computer lab. Block B has two levels, totalling about 1000 m², and accommodates a reception hall, an amphitheatre for 300 students with a cafeteria, office space and related services.
Although the initial design included construction of Block C, to host visiting professors in 40 apartments spread over 1500 m², its construction has been postponed until the SEEU has sufficient funds to partake in this extension. The extension of the campus was supported by the EU following a special decision of the European Commission.
The new premises of the Business Centre for Education and Post-graduate Studies at the South East European University (SEEU) were opened on 17 September 2007.
