Brussels, 20 March 2012
The Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER) organised this Workshop in collaboration with the Core Team of the Biofuels FlightPath 2020 Initiative. The purpose was to discuss with key stakeholders the financial mechanisms that can facilitate the construction of first-of-a-kind-plants for advanced paraffinic sustainable biofuels.
The Workshop started with presentations on technology readiness and benchmarking providing some degree of technology reliability to the stakeholders. Examples of key joint projects between the aviation and biofuel sector were presented.
The second part of the workshop focused on presentations by the financial institutions and experiences by some biofuels technology developers in raising funds for the investments in their plants.
At the end of the Workshop Commissioner Guenther Oettinger addressed the participants expressing the Commission's support for the Biofuels FlightPath 2020 Initiative.
The workshop has been attended by about 80 participants from the aviation sector, the biofuel producers industry, representatives from some financial institutions, NGOs, various organisations and representatives from the European Commission.
