2nd International Conference on Biofuels Standards
Standards and Measurements for Biofuels: Facilitating Global Trade
19-20 March 2009, Brussels
The Conference was organised by the Directorate General for Energy – European Commission (DG TREN/D2), in close collaboration with the US National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Brazilian Instituto Nacional de Metrologia, Normalização e Qualidade Industrial (INMETRO). The objectives of the Conference were to examine the achievements reached by the Tripartite work on biofuels standards and report on the progress achieved after the publication of the White Paper on Internationally Compatible Biofuels Standards (see http://ec.europa.eu/energy/renewables/biofuels/doc/standard/white_paper_icbs_final.pdf
). On the second day two informative sessions described the various activities taking place on sustainability criteria in the EU, USA, Brazil as well as other voluntary schemes. 140 international experts attended the Conference. The majority of the participants were from the oil, car and biofuel industries, various standardisation bodies as well as scientists working on sustainability criteria and GHG calculations.
