The Berlin Forum on Fossil Fuels is part of the European Commission's structured dialogue on the outlook for fossil fuels. It focuses on the role of fossil fuels with respect to climate change, security of supply and the external dimension of energy policy. Among its participants are corporations, industry associations, Member State administrations and representatives of European civil society.
The annual Forum is held in October in Berlin and is hosted by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology. The Commission’s Directorate-General for Energy (DG ENER) acts as secretariat of the Forum.
Working parties for Coal, Gas and Oil were set up in October 2005. In 2007, they were replaced by working parties on Sustainable Fossil Fuels and Security of Supply. Following the 5th Plenary session in 2009, the setting up of an additional party was been agreed, focusing on Indigenous Fossil Fuel Production. The working parties meet several times a year between the annual plenary sessions.
