Access to infrastructure
An efficient energy infrastructure is essential for the internal energy market to work properly and to achieve the EU's targets for sustainable development, competitiveness and secure energy supplies. This requires considerable investment in the existing gas and electricity networks along with rapid development of their interconnections.
Cross-border exchanges in electricity
Barriers to competition still remain in the internal market in electricity. The Regulation (EC) No 714/2009 lays down rules providing a framework for cross-border exchanges in electricity in order to alleviate these difficulties.
Natural gas transmission networks
Barriers to competition still remain within the internal market in natural gas. The Regulation (EC) No 715/2009 lays down rules providing a framework for natural gas transmission and trade in order to counteract this dysfunction.
