Security of gas supplies in the framework of the energy internal market

Directive 2004/67/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 26 April 2004
DA DE EL ES FI FR IT NL PT SV

Commission's proposal

The Commission has adopted on 11 September 2002 two Directive proposals which will help improve the security of EU energy supply in the framework of the internal market of energy. The strong EU external dependence for its oil and gas supplies is a high risk for the EU economy. In parallel with the development of the internal market of energy, it is essential to foresee efficient mechanisms to guarantee permanent access to energy products at affordable prices to European citizens. The new initiatives proposed by the Commission in its package for a common and joint management of oil and gas stocks are a great step in this direction.
