Intelligent energy tips

Act now and use your energy intelligently!

10 energy saving tips for your home:

  • By turning the thermostat down by one degree, you can save as much as 10% on your bill.
  • Switch off your television, video, DVD player and music system at the set. When left on standby, they still consume electricity.
  • Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRV) allow you to control the temperature of each room and can help reduce your energy bills.
  • Regularly defrosting your fridge freezer will help keep it running efficiently
  • Remember not to leave your fridge freezer doors open for too long. For every minute the door is left open, it takes another three minutes to reach the set temperature
  • Cover saucepans and turn the heat down
  • To save energy, wait until you have a full load before using your dishwasher.
  • Turn off lights when you are not in the room
  • Use low energy light bulbs wherever you can as they use less than a quarter of the electricity used by standard light bulbs and will last up to 15 times longer.
  • You can save energy and money by insulating your hot water tank.

Cleaner and better transport in cities

Read more on CIVITAS Measures web site

The CIVITAS Initiative helps cities to achieve a more sustainable, clean and energy efficient urban transport system by implementing and evaluating an ambitious, integrated set of technology and policy based measures.

CIVITAS Measure Fields: eight categories of measures have been identified as the basic building blocks of an integrated strategy. Each CIVITAS city chooses an appropriate set of measures from those building blocks and combines them to form integrated solutions for clean urban transport in cities. In addition, it puts in place the appropriate planning framework, ensures political involvement and support, and establishes the necessary partnerships to ensure delivery of the plans.
