Household appliances - Voluntary Agreements
The EC welcomes alternative courses of actions such as self-regulation (voluntary agreements) by the industry, when they are likely to deliver the policy objectives faster or in a more cost-effective manner compared to mandatory requirements. They also allow to adapt flexibly to technological options and market sensitivities.
Voluntary agreements can be particularly successful in the area of energy efficiency: three agreements have been implemented successfully as unilateral commitments by industry:
