Introduction

The European Commission’s efforts also concentrate on developing sustainable and clean technologies and on removing barriers to a well functioning market. This is done with the help of Community technology research and demonstration programmes, such as the Framework Research and Technology Development Programmes, and with pro-active support programmes, such as the Intelligent Energy - Europe Programme and its preceding programmes, an overview of which is provided in the present section.
