Overview

Under the terms of the ECSC Treaty, the Commission has published regular reports on the short term forecasts for the market for solid fuels in the Community. These are based upon data received from Member states and from other sources.

Since 1970 the Commission has also published information on the average quarterly cif prices of coking coal at Community ports that has been imported from third countries. Figures for the first quarter of each year are available for the period from 1970 to 1986 and for all quarters there after. The price of hard coal for use in power plants within the Community has been monitored and published since 1977.

Following the expiry of the ECSC Treaty on 23 July 2002, the Council adopted, on 27 February 2003, a new regulation concerning the Community monitoring of hard coal originating in third countries, Council Regulation (EC) No 405/2003.
