Social Economy Conference
Antwerp (B), 10-12 May 2004
The Strengthening the Social Economy conference is the major event bringing together those active in the social economy in the first phase of the EQUAL Community Initiative. It examined the contributions that social economy approaches are making to meet challenges such as demographic change and welfare state reform as well as labour market discrimination and inequality. It examined the relevant policies, discussed the promising practices being piloted among EQUAL development partnerships, and formulated policy messages for presentation at European level in 2004.
The conference involved 140 people, from inside the EQUAL community as well as external stakeholders and policy-makers. It included representatives from the EQUAL programmes in the countries joining the EU this year.
Its results will inform the EQUAL visibility event to take place at the end of 2004, the European social economy conference in Kraków on 28-29 October 2004, and the follow-up work to be undertaken in the second round of EQUAL.
