The Opening Conference of the 2010 European Year successfully launched the campaign, thanks to the active participation of a high-level audience, a well-focused agenda, and the prospect of action throughout the year.

The Participatory Forum – A circus against exclusion, highlighted the 2010 European Year's message of participation and shared responsibility, by giving an active role to the various actors in debates, open spaces, workshops and stands.

The 2010 European Year Journalist Award has been set up to support and recognise journalists who contribute to an increased awareness and a broader understanding of poverty and social exclusion through their work.

The Art Partner Project is one of the key activities of the 2010 European Year. The theme of the project is "(IN)VISIBLE – When art makes the individuals behind poverty visible".

The Closing Conference was a high point of 2010, was filled with political declarations, prizes, key interventions and the presentation of national co-funded projects. The Council declaration on the European Year was signed by the officials present including President of the European Council, José Manuel Barroso, President of the European Commission and Yves Leterme, Prime Minister of Belgium.
