Building Social Europe – From crisis to opportunity

The European Anti-Poverty Network held a conference in Dublin on ‘Building Social Europe –From crisis to opportunity’ on the 19th February.

The purpose of this convention was to discuss what will happen after the 2010 European Year for Combating poverty and how to take the legacy of the European Year beyond 2010.

Speakers included Anna Visser, Director of EAPN Ireland, various representatives from EAPN offices throughout Europe, and interventions from university professors such as Professor Brigid Laffan, Principal UCD College of Human Sciences.

The aim, through a series of plenary sessions and workshops, was to set out concrete proposals for building a social Europe. Topics covered included:

  • Europe and the fight against poverty and exclusion
  • Achieving an adequate income for all and a reduction in inequalities
  • The Fight against Poverty
  • Europe’s Social Future: A Renegotiated Agenda
  • Social Exclusion in the EU 2020 Agenda
