The 17 October has been recognised in 1992 by the United Nations as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.
All over the world this day is celebrated as an opportunity to think about the struggle against poverty and call for reinforcement of policies.
Poverty is not limited to Third World countries. Even if it is not so extreme, it also affects 17% of the population of the European Union.
Therefore the 17 October 2010 will be a key moment of the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. The civil society is mobilized all over Europe to get people together for a fairer society.
Because everyone has a role to play in this fight, you are invited to join the events organised by NGOs.
