Conditions for entry

  1. All entries must be accompanied by a completed online entry form
  2. All entries must have been published or shown in the media between 1 October, 2009 and 24 September, 2010
  3. The deadline for all entries is 24 September, 2010
  4. All entries must have been originally published or aired in a media outlet that has a headquarter editorial office based in one of the 27 EU Member States, Iceland, or Norway
  5. Each entrant may submit up to a maximum of three articles or video reports
  6. Entries must be at least 700 words in length. It is recommended that articles do not exceed 3,000 words
  7. Audiovisual entries must be at least 1:30 minutes and no longer than 3:00 minutes. Abridged versions of longer reports are acceptable as long as the submitted entry remains within 1:30 and 3:00 minutes. They must be submitted in MPEG4 format (.mov PAL dv25)
  8. Written entries must be submitted in (or translated into) one of the 23 official languages of the EU, Icelandic, or Norwegian
  9. Audiovisual entries must be accompanied by a short script (maximum one page) summarising the report in one of the 23 EU official languages, Icelandic, or Norwegian
  10. Team entries of up to a maximum of five people will be accepted provided that all major contributors (e.g. researchers, journalists, and editors) grant their explicit consent and all are listed on the entry form
  11. Articles/news reports may be submitted by a third party including media outlets. In such cases, the entry must be made with the documented (written) consent of the author
  12. The European Commission reserves the right to use entries in presentation materials, with the media, and to reproduce them in any form for the purpose of promoting the Award and the ‘2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion'
  13. The jury’s decision is final. The jury also reserves the right to reject any entry that does not comply with the requirements of the competition. Legal recourse is excluded
  14. By submitting an entry, the entrant accepts that he or she has read and understood the competition rules
  15. Articles from print and online media, as well as audiovisual entries, must be submitted in their original layout
  16. Entrants must provide proof (by providing a pdf, a screenshot of the article, or the airtime of a news report) that the entry has been published or aired
  17. Entrants under 18 years of age must have the signed consent of their parent or guardian
