June Burrough is the Founder Director of The Pierian Centre Community Interest Company, an 8 year-old social enterprise in the heart of St Pauls, Bristol. With a background in Management Development and Training, Stage Management and Catering, running a conference facility  was an obvious next step!! But over the years we have become a centre renowned for our welcome, for our contribution to Bristol, and as an organisation which builds bridges across cultures that would otherwise not meet.

Our social purpose is to serve the wider community of Bristol especially the marginalised, disadvantaged and excluded and those living in our locality,  and we are the first Community Interest Company to acquire the Social Enterprise Mark.   The Pierian Centre is the Lead Project Partner for "Working Together for Positive Change" - Bristol's response to EY2010 as the year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.  The National Launch of EY2010 was held in Bristol and The Pierian Centre project-managed a Bristol launch for the year with 45 organisations and 350 people in Bristol Cathedral on March 22nd.   We are working in close collaboration with the Bristol Partnership towards their vision for 2020, to become one of the top 20 cities in Europe.

June is also chair of City of Sanctuary, Bristol - and the Pierian Centre works in close partnership with many other  organisations across the city, all engaged in bringing Social Justice to the core of the way we work in Bristol.  It is often through the arts and culture that we find ways to support people in having a voice and engaging with issues which are sometimes too difficult to talk about.  So we are continuously expan-ding our work with communities around the city and with young people and schools.  We are in the business of  bringing the city together  and helping people to change their lives – joining up Bristol in every way possible.
