FULL DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING CONTENTS
IN THE LANGUAGE OF THE TRAINING: (EN)
Each participant will be required to register online and fill out a questionnaire. This will be used to gauge participants’ familiarity of ICT tools in formal and non-formal education. Preparation materials will then be sent out (reference material, presentation decks, videos and useful sites) that cover a basic introduction of the topics. Each participant should be prepared to present their formal and/or non-formal education environment and how the topics of the course relate to them.
The aim of the course is to help those teachers and educationalists who wish to explore the possibilities of online technologies and tools in education. By becoming better acquainted with these tools they will be able to adapt and amplify their methods to reach a new generation of learners.
This will be achieved by:
- Showing participants a new perspective in regards to digital tools and their use in a formal and non-formal education environment,
- Sharing insights into the needs and expectations of learners,
- Becoming familiar with new technology,
- Understanding the usage and changes of digital communication,
- Learning new pedagogical and didactic approaches,
- Creating and implementing learning strategies,
- Presenting a new role for teachers, institutes and learners.
The course is organized as a series of presentations and short lectures which will then be studied closely in the form of round table discussions. Furthermore, outdoor activities and interactive sessions will enable participants to experience the tools and applications (hardware and software) presented to them. Participants will then be encouraged to present possible implementations of these technologies into their current teaching methodologies. The group work and workshop sessions will focus on the practical side of these implementations.
The topics, tools and applications that will be covered during the course include:
- How location-based tools can help the learning process (Augmented reality & GPS)
- Storing and sharing information through QR codes & Near Field Communication (NFC)
- Building groups through social networks and their use in non-formal education (Facebook, Google+)
- The use and power of video in teaching (Youtube, Vimeo, Ustream)
- Engaging students with online tasks, infographics and memes
- Addressing cyber bullying and phishing
- Creating a digital strategy for more effective and memorable teaching
- Non-formal and alternative forms of education
- Expectations and learning methods of different groups
A private online forum will be created for follow-up questions and additional information. Participants will be encouraged to brainstorm ideas for implementing the tools and technologies presented during the course. The closed online group will give participants the ability to share their findings. This learning network will be used before, during and after the course, where all materials will be posted.
