FULL DESCRIPTION OF TRAINING CONTENTS
IN THE LANGUAGE OF THE TRAINING: (EN)
As preparation, we first ask all participants to fill in a pre-course information questionnaire, so that we know more about their background, interests and suitability for the course. It will be important to collect information from national curriculum/cyllabus and school plan/working plan about intercultural/multicultural education policy. We will also ask the participants to bring examples from their own working place. We give participants recommendations for pre-course reading, and also ask them to select and bring with them a cultural artefact about the culture of the country they are from or currently live in, which
reveals something about the culture of that country - habits, customs, values, attitudes,
etc..
The consequences of contemporary pluralist society create culturally challenging educational environment in EU. It is recognized that there is a need for methodology and
pedagogical strategies of intercultural education that are consistent with both local realities and European space exploring the comparative view on various common and cross-cultural issues.
The participants will work with sensitiveness to individual differences, in order to be prepared to meet different cultures.
Various media will be used to reflect cultural diversity and to explore numerous sociocultural similarities and differences in order to develop cultural identity. Media belongs to everyday life of young people, so the use of digital media as a learning tool provides extra motivation for students and is based on their interests and everyday realities. Thus, digital media in intercultural education determine the focus on values, attitudes, critical thinking, and consciousness rising of students rather than simply on knowledge acquisition.
This learning experience not only improves intercultural educational practice but supports
and empowers both national and European community.
The course uses a variety of methodologies, with the emphasis on variety and interactive learning approaches :
• Aspects of cultural diversity in education
• ICT tools in intercultural education
• Methodology of developing media literacy (still and moving images) in the teaching and learning processes
• Developing computer literacy by the use of e learning platform, interactive boards and the digital books ("The cloud"). Video clips, slides and other visual media are used to illustrate aspects of cross-cultural communication and working styles
By the end of the course, participants will :
• Have good understanding of the key conceptual frameworks of the intercultural field
• Be able to incorporate intercultural elements into their
own areas of training
• Have critical understanding of the principles of intercultural and cross-cultural education
and communication
• Have theoretical understandings of culture and cultural diversity in the context of
globalization
• Understand what is cultural diversity in contexts of education policy, management,
curriculum, teaching and learning
• Understand and create media messages
• Use ICT in education (Including interactive boards digital books)
