Preparation The participants will be asked to fill in a questionnaire about their background (school/organisation, teaching experience (subjects), skills in English, ICT skills and experience). Furthermore the participants will have access to the CIRCE manual on teaching Classics with ICT as well as to the resources on the CIRCE website www.CIRCE.eu. Hands-on training materials will be given out during the course.
Objectives To enable teachers in Classics all over Europe to Exploit the ICT resources available for their teaching of Ancient Greek and/or Latin and/or Classical Civilisation and to help create a new learning environment for Classics with ICT. Basic skills will be trained along with more advanced exercises and the new pedagogical and didactic approach enabled by ICT will be addressed.
Methodology Various topics from the CIRCE manual will be presented and followed up by workshops using computers to train various skills and point out the resources available for Classics (different kinds of software, internet resources, various databases, electronic dictionaries etc.). All will be put into in a pedagogical and didactic frame.
Follow-up A lesson plan created by the participant during the course can - after testing in class - be added to the lesson plan section of the project website. The website www.circe.eu will provide a forum for the participants to discuss the in-service training after it has ended and to exchange further experiences and materials.
