Professional development of teachers
One of the EU’s goals in education and training is to improve teacher quality and teacher education. One way that the European Commission helps to do this is by bringing together a group of experts from around the Union.
A group of experts (one of several looking at different areas of education and training) from EU Member States and other European countries meets regularly to examine specific aspects of teacher educatio n, discuss common challenges and exchange good practice.
Find out more about these 'peer learning' discussions, and the policy conclusions they have reached, on the following themes:
- Teachers' continuous professional development;
- Schools as communities in which teachers as well as pupils are learning;
- Preparing teachers to teach in culturally diverse classroom settings;
- Partnerships between vocational education schools and companies;
- Effective relationships between schools and teacher education institutions;
- The induction of new teachers;
- Practical classroom training within Initial Teacher Education;
- The professional development of Teacher Educators;
- School Leadership for Learning;
- Defining and describing teachers' competences.
