Erasmus Mundus - Opportunities for Higher Education Institutions (Actions 1, 2, 3, 4)
Scholarships (Action 2)
This Action addresses Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses selected
under Action 1.
In order to give the Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses selected
under Action 1 a strong external projection, a scholarship scheme
for third-country graduate students and scholars from the whole
world is linked to them. This scholarship scheme addresses highly
qualified individuals who come to Europe to follow the Erasmus
Mundus Masters Courses (students) or to work for them (scholars).
Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses commit themselves to selecting a
fixed number of third-country graduate students (around 20) and
scholars (around 3) every year over a period of five years. Only the
very best international students and scholars should be selected for
an Erasmus Mundus scholarship. Once students and scholars are
selected, the consortia pay the Erasmus Mundus scholarships to them.
An Erasmus Mundus scholarship for a third-country student is worth
21,000 euros a year (42,000 euros for a two-year course), while a
3-month scholarship for a third-country scholar amounts to 13,000
euros.
Each Erasmus Mundus Masters Course must establish transparent
application and admission conditions as well as transparent
selection procedures for third-country students and scholars in
accordance with national legislation. These procedures must be
explained in detail, communicated to the Commission and published on
their websites.
If Erasmus Mundus Masters consortia selected under Action 1
establish a Partnership with higher education institutions in third
countries (Action 3), Erasmus Mundus also provides scholarships
for outgoing mobility of the European participants in the
Erasmus Mundus Masters Course: scholarships for European students
worth 3,100 euro to study three months at one of the third-county
partner institutions; and scholarships for European academics (scholars)
worth 13,000 euros to spend three months of teaching or research at
on of the third-country partner institutions.

statistical analysis of the nationalities of selected Erasmus Mundus
scholarship grantees.
