Partnerships (Action 3)

This Action addresses Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses selected under Action 1 and higher education institutions located in third countries.

In order to encourage European higher education institutions to open themselves up to the world and to reinforce their world-wide presence, Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses selected under Action 1 have the possibility of establishing partnerships with third-country higher education institutions.

These partnerships are built around the Erasmus Mundus Masters Course. Teaching and research activities offered by the third-country institutions participating in the partnership must fit and complement the Erasmus Mundus Masters Course in question.

Partnerships allow for the outgoing mobility of graduate EU students and scholars involved in the Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses:

• Scholarships for European students are worth 3,100 euro and cover a three-month period of study at one of the third-county partner institutions. European students must carry out course work or research at the third-country partner institution. This course work or research must fit into the curriculum of the Erasmus Mundus Masters Course and must be fully recognised.
• Scholarships for European academics (scholars) are worth 13,000 euros and cover three months of teaching or research at on of the third-country partner institutions.

Partnership activities may also include teachers' exchanges, development and dissemination of new methodologies in higher education (including the use of information and communication technologies, e-learning and open and distance learning), development of cooperation schemes with third-country higher education institutions, etc.

In addition to the scholarship amounts mentioned above, a selected Partnership receives 5,000 euro per participating third-country institution per year (maximum amount per year: 15,000 euros).

Partnerships can last between one and three years.
