The Leonardo da Vinci programme - Thematic monitoring

Theme 5 : E-LEARNING

The information and communication technologies occupy an increasingly prominent place in both occupational life and in peoples day-to-day lives. As a result, knowledge of, and access to, these technologies are becoming essential in terms of boosting employability and citizenship, more especially because these new technologies will be increasingly used as learning support media.

The importance of the information and communication technologies for vocational training was already reflected in the first call for proposals under the Leonardo da Vinci programme. Current projects are designed to gather quantitative and qualitative information on training and learning in connection with the new technologies in Europe, and develop such themes as the skills shortage in the new technologies and the quality of training. They are also geared to developing methods and applications which use the new technologies for training purposes, particularly for helping teachers and instructors. The Thematic Monitoring Group would also like to include other project results from Programmes directed towards e-learning like the e-learning Programme, Minerva etc.

Questions to be discussed

  • Practices: How is eLearning put to use in vocational training? What are the strategies, expectations and experiences of the participating countries? How do we stand at international level?

  • Tools and methods: How can we motivate firms and individuals to make use of eLearning? What solutions should we devise to meet the needs of users (e.g. trainers or teachers) or target groups, including the most disadvantaged? What methods should we use to anticipate and evaluate basic skills in terms of computer applications? How can we encourage cooperation between the public and private sectors?

Thematic Group 5 is managed and facilitated by the Danish NA. The National Agencies from UK, Slovenia, Portugal, Poland, The Netherlands, Norway, Lithuania, Ireland, Greece, Hungary, Finland and Bulgaria are also participate in this Thematic Groups activities.
