eCLIPse - Digital Video Clips for a Social Europe

TV has become a closed circuit of advertisement in all its forms and often relies on image building to achieve its goals. Some of the consequences of the massive - and mainly free - distribution of value-loaded images at the service of economic benefit, are religious and gender prejudices, domestic violence, xenophobia and racism, none of which contributes to real integration of European citizens.

ECML - European Centre for Media Literacy

With media technology becoming so prevalent in homes, and with multi-media education more possible now with student access to computers and the Internet, "media literacy" expands the basic concept of literacy (i.e. "reading" and "writing") to all forms of communication - from television to T-shirts, from billboards to multi-media environments. In our world of multi-tasking, commercialism, globalization and interactivity, media education isn't about having the right answers-it's about asking the right questions. The result is lifelong empowerment of the learner and citizen.

e-QUALITY - Virtual Spaces of democratic dialogue among cultures, about the image

The general aim of the present project is to foster democratic participation and the use of ICTs by people who have had fewer opportunities to access them, by means of training focused on critical reading of the mass media, including the images derived from these. We will work specifically with the Internet, because it is the most accessible way to work in the classrooms and because of the resources of the participating associations.

ICON - Identity Formation in Contextual Media Culture

Based on existing research, teenagers have a tremendous and pervasive impact on the technological, social, communicative changes in knowledge society. The various formations of individual and group-oriented, passive and active performances and styles on the web, raise substantial questions of the critical implications how information will be generated, perceived and received on the web. Simultaneously new ways of communication, collaboration and creative ways of interacting on the web have generated a new learning culture which goes far beyond passive reception, reproduction and consumption.
