Ministries of Education, Culture and Parliamentary Issues (Ministérios da Educação, Cultura e dos Assuntos Parlamentares)

• National Reading Plan(Plano Nacional de Leitura; Ler +): is a comprehensive project to promote the development of reading and writing skills and to increase reading habits among the school population. This project involves several stakeholders, such as the local administration, scientific, cultural and educational associations, libraries and the media. 

Ministry of Education(Ministério da Educação)

• School (Curriculum) Reform proposal (ongoing): provides guidelines for the key competences and framework education programme from elementary to secondary levels of education. National Reading Plan in co-operation with the Agency for Qualification (Agência para a Qualificação)

• Reading and New Opportunities (Novas Oportunidades a Ler +): this is a project developed to support reading habits and skills among adults.

• School Libraries Network Programme(Programa Rede de Bibliotecas Escolares): creates and supports libraries in public schools at all education levels. 

 Directorate-General Book and Libraries (Direcção-Geral do Livro e das Bibliotecas)

• Reading Promotion Programme(Programa de Promoção da Leitura): supports projects for the promotion of reading and the development of literacy skills with several public and private entities. 
• Reading without Borders (Leitura sem Fronteiras): supports the development of literacy in prisons. 
• Story Time (A Hora do Conto): story reading for children in hospitals. 

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation

• Reading Home(Casa da Leitura): provides theoretical and practical skills to different reading facilitators (parents, teachers, librarians). 
• Book Digger (Cata-Livros): this is a web-based platform to help familiarise young children with key Portuguese literary books in an entertaining and interactive fashion. 

CamõesInstitute(Instituto Camões)

• Disseminates the Portuguese language and culture internationally and manages the Portuguese network of education abroad (from elementary to university education levels). 

Littera – Portuguese Association for Literacy(Littera – Associação Portuguesa para a Literacia): promotes education and research in the area of literacy. 

• Growing and Reading (Crescer a Ler): is a Portuguese Bookstart initiative to promote literacy skills and reading habits in the family context. 
• The Storyteller(O Contador de Histórias): is a group that combines reading with an artistic component. The group reads stories, prose and poetry, and recitals to children, adults and the elderly. Performances take place in schools, libraries, companies, hospitals and prisons. 
• Reading with you (Projecto Ler Consigo): launched in 2004, in this project teachers and students invite a community member to read a text to the class. The texts can be read in Portuguese or in the mother tongue of the invitee, in which case it will be followed by a translation. The students may also read a text of their choice to the invitee.

• Inequality Observatory(Observatório das Desigualdades): provides statistics on education and training, including literacy, educational attainment and lifelong learning.
