Education and training 2020 – diverse systems, shared goals

The European Commission and Member States have been working on a number of policy initiatives in the field of education and training since 2000. The Council Conclusions on a strategic framework for European cooperation in education and training ("ET 2020"), adopted in May 2009, build on progress made under the previous work programme and set four strategic objectives: making lifelong learning and mobility a reality; improving the quality and efficiency of education and training; promoting equity, social cohesion and active citizenship; enhancing creativity and innovation, including entrepreneurship, at all levels of education and training. Activities also contribute to the Bologna intergovernmental process in the field of higher education.
This compendium offers you details on the wide range of policy initiatives in education and training. Key documents are organised along a number of themes. They include Communications and reports from the Commission, Conclusions and Key messages from the Council and other relevant documents adopted by the Commission, the Council and the European Parliament.
