European Language Label

Welcome to the ELL database for innovative projects in language teaching and learning.

This database contains projects that have received the European Language Label since 1999 (for the pilot phase 1998-99, please refer to "The European Label: catalogue of projects 1998-99").

The database aims to inspire practitioners, stakeholders and policymakers by presenting "best practices" in the field of language teaching and learning.

The European Language Label is awarded to local, regional, and national projects that have found creative ways to improve the quality of language teaching, motivate students, make the best use of available resources to diversify the languages on offer, and other innovative initiatives.

The Seven Step Method - Standardising Methods of Teaching Minor European Languages in Europe/Uniformisation des méthodes d'apprentissage des langues européennes moins enseignées en Europe

Target audience: expatriate employees on assignment, students taking part in exchange programmes and work placements. The languages involved are Dutch, Slovakian, Polish, Lithuanian and Greek. A handbook explaining the method recommended for use by teachers is available in two languages (English and one of the languages just listed) The project: The aim is to standardise methods of learning minor European languages in Europe (including Dutch) with the help of a common teaching method for the five languages. The 7-step method has been developed for a 4-5 week intensive course, taking the specific needs of the students into account.
