European Language Label

Welcome to the ELL database for innovative projects in language teaching and learning.

This database contains projects that have received the European Language Label since 1999 (for the pilot phase 1998-99, please refer to "The European Label: catalogue of projects 1998-99").

The database aims to inspire practitioners, stakeholders and policymakers by presenting "best practices" in the field of language teaching and learning.

The European Language Label is awarded to local, regional, and national projects that have found creative ways to improve the quality of language teaching, motivate students, make the best use of available resources to diversify the languages on offer, and other innovative initiatives.

You can search the database according to a number of different criteria:

3E E.Eco.Euro Citoyen: Fostering Foreign Languages Learning & European Citizenship Among Pupils in Vocational Secondary School

Montpensier High School wishes for its students to learn a foreign language and develop a European culture as the direction thinks it is rare in high school providing professional programs. Each student of this school learns English and Spanish. The team wishes to add a new language each year so the pupil had discovered at least 5 languages by the time he graduates. To do so, the teachers of each program (Languages, Arts, Economy, Communication, etc.) meet and organize their syllabus around the European theme. A new country is studied every year. Discussions between teachers and Erasmus students from the studied country or who went there and Montpensier pupils are organized. During these meetings, they exchange their points of view and experiences. A “pen pal program”, the Internet and the European platform E-twinning are additional tools for Montpensier pupils.
