The database aims to inspire practitioners, stakeholders and policymakers by presenting "best practices" in the field of
language teaching and learning.
The European Language Label is awarded to local, regional, and national projects that have found creative ways to improve
the quality of language teaching, motivate students, make the best use of available resources to diversify the languages
on offer, and other innovative initiatives.

Label of the day
For the last fourteen years, the school has successfully organised language exchanges with a school in Flanders. The course in Dutch, the foreign language, is taught during the last two years of primary school i.e. Years 5 and 6. The project starts in Year 5 with a one-day reciprocated stay in the twin school, during which pupils get to know their counterparts. In the same year, videos, e-mails, letters and other documents are exchanged. In Year 6, the pupils spend three days in the partner school, staying with host families. This is reciprocated. During these stays, many excursions take place, as well as communication workshops. This project, which improves the learning of languages by giving it a purpose, is the domain not only of language teachers but of the whole school staff. This explains why it has lasted so long.
