The database aims to inspire practitioners, stakeholders and policymakers by presenting "best practices" in the field of
language teaching and learning.
The European Language Label is awarded to local, regional, and national projects that have found creative ways to improve
the quality of language teaching, motivate students, make the best use of available resources to diversify the languages
on offer, and other innovative initiatives.

My language – your language – our languages
This initiative of the primary school called Otto-Glöckel-Volksschule was realised in a Year 2 class, with the aim of drawing attention to the linguistic and cultural competences of children whose first language in not German; and to ensure appreciation of those competences in the children themselves, their parents, and their mother tongue teachers. Nearly all children in the relevant class are bilingual, some trilingual. First languages are used not only in communication about everyday matters at school (including pupils talking during breaks), but are also integrated into classroom teaching. Given the daily use of several different languages as a matter of course (German, English, Albanian, Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian, Turkish, Russian, Spanish, Italian, French, Modern Greek), the children began to be interested in the languages of their fellow pupils.
