LITHUANIA - Tadas

One million Erasmus students : Lithuania - Tadas

When I applied for an Erasmus scholarship I did not know much about the program and its possibilities. Having received a place at the Faculty of Law of Christian-Albrechts-University of Kiel, I was expecting to directly experience the firmly established and almost legendary German legal system, to explore fresh ideas, improve my foreign language skills and establish new relations… I was anticipating much, but, to tell the truth, all the advantages that the Erasmus program has actually brought me, were really beyond my imagination…

Fantastic picnics, dashing trips, staggering parties and books, books, books! Despite my initial worries about not being able to master the specifics of legal terminology in radically different law branches and subjects over such a short period of time, I felt fine at the end of the semester. Even more, the results of the examinations had surpassed my expectations. Therefore, I may say with reason, that I realized ambitions to suitably represent Lithuania, my alma mater and myself.

I also met many wonderful friends and colleagues from all across the world, as well as a few Lithuanian students in Germany! And all this came true due to the Erasmus students’ exchange program.

Due to the good reputation of the Erasmus program and the positive attitude towards the Erasmus students, I was able to get internship in German legal institutions and thereby I had an opportunity to get first hand knowledge of the German legal system.

I returned to Lithuania full of good impressions about the organisation, quality of studies, and amiability and accessibility of professors at the University of Kiel. During my studies I had become familiar with the work methods and training of German lawyers.

I also had the good fortune to represent my country in playing basketball

For the time being, I have received offers to study and improve my qualification in Switzerland. And now I am seriously considering the LLM, MBL, Doctoral studies, and internship opportunities in foreign legal institutions.
