In May 1998 the Commission organised a large conference on the theme of integration through education and training. The conference was a large exchange of ideas and experience structured around the issues which form some of the main challenges of the second chance schools. The participants of the conference was however not limited to the European pilot projects - to the contrary: the purpose of the event was to achieve a large scale mobilisation of confirmed programmes and projects which are dealing with the integration of disadvantaged young people through education and training.

The Commission is now pleased to publish the proceedings of this conference (PDF format 437 kb) as well as an inventory of the projects (PDF format 409 kb) which have contributed to the success of this extraordinary event.
