This programme brings in outside experts for one day to share their expertise with DG ECFIN.
Last update 17/09/2010.
DG ECFIN seeks to attract leading economists in academia, international
organisations, governments and top research institutions to participate in its
Economic Seminar Programme. Seminar speakers are invited to give a seminar
presenting and discussing original research work on themes related to the
functioning of the European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), from both a
macroeconomic and microeconomic perspective.
The aim of the programme is to strengthen in-house knowledge and to enhance the
overall quality of work done at ECFIN by improving its connections and
interactions with the broader economic research community. The programme
provides ECFIN staff with access to ongoing research and exposure to new
approaches and insights into issues of relevance for the Directorate General.
Seminar speakers, for their part, are given an opportunity to experience the
policy-making environment in which ECFIN operates.
During their one-day visit to ECFIN, speakers present their work at a seminar of one and a half hours organised by ECFIN, after which they are expected to remain available for further discussion of their research with ECFIN staff. As a rule, the background paper on which the seminar is based is made available to ECFIN one week prior to the event.
In 2010, the seminar speakers other than EU government officials are paid a
fee of approximately €500 (depending upon experience), a daily subsistence
allowance of €92 and an accommodation allowance of €100 per night, and travel
costs are reimbursed according to current regulations in force. No fee is paid
to EU government officials and expenses are paid on a case by case
basis.
No new applications are invited until further notice.
