Sound public finances are of paramount importance for the success and long-run sustainability of EMU.There are many open theoretical and empirical questions on fiscal policy in EMU having important policy implications.
Therefore, the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs decided to organise a seminar on public debt and fiscal policy in EMU with the participation of academics, officials from the treasuries and the national central banks, as well as Members of the European Parliament. This issue presents the proceedings of the seminar.
