The EU held its last Sub-Committee on Economic and Financial Matters with the Palestinian Authority in Brussels in November 2013. The European Commission presented the EU economic outlook based on the autumn 2013 economic forecast. The Palestinian Authority presented recent macroeconomic developments and measures addressing ongoing economic challenges. The meeting also provided the opportunity to discuss issues related to public finance management, taxation, unemployment, and Israel’s unsatisfactory transfer of revenues from import taxes and levies to the Palestinian Authority. The Palestinian Authority expressed appreciation for the EU’s continuous and consistent political and financial support, emphasising the volatility of the political situation and the detrimental effect which Israeli restrictions have on the Palestinian economy.
The next meeting will take place in Ramallah in October 2014 (to be confirmed).
