Other financing programmes

DG ECFIN also manages financing programmes other than those aimed specifically at SMEs.

These other financing programmes are implemented in co-operation with main international financial institutions: the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), and the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) in co-operation with the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW). They are:

  • The Municipal Infrastructure Facility (MIF)
The objective of the MIF is to support municipal infrastructure projects in most of the countries which joined the EU in 2004 and in certain applicant countries.
  • The Municipal Finance Facility (MFF)
The objective of the MFF is to develop and stimulate commercial bank lending to small and medium-sized municipalities in most of the countries which joined the EU in 2004 and in certain applicant countries.
  • The Energy Efficiency Finance Facility (EEFF)
The EEFF aims at increasing investments in energy efficiency in order to improve the energy performance of buildings and the industrial sector in Romania, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Turkey.
